Insurance Company Adds Jobs in Austin
AUSTIN, Tex (Austin American-Statesman—Shondra Novak)—Marsh Inc., a New York-based insurance brokerage, plans to hire up to 300 more employees in Northwest Austin. Marsh is the world’s largest risk management and insurance services firm.
The Marsh office will be a back-office processing facility whose employees will produce and mail insurance certificates and automobile insurance cards to company’s commercial clients, according to Thomas Elliot, Marsh’s managing director of corporate communications. The company currently has two retail insurance brokerage offices in Austin.
Owens Sausage to Open Plant
SULPHUR SPRINGS, Tex (Wright Review: Texas Business Report)—Owens Country Sausage Inc, a subsidiary of Bob Evans Farms Inc., will open a sandwich assembly plant in Sulphur Springs. Owens recently purchased a vacant facility adjacent to Interstate 30.
A total of 60 employees may work initially at the new Owens plant, which should have facility upgrades completed by the beginning of 2004. The location is expected to employ 100 within its first two years of operation.
Armored Vehicle Facility to Open
SEGUIN, Tex (Seguin Economic Development Corporation)—Hueck Armor Texas, Inc., a start-up defense contractor, has started renovations on a recently purchased location to establish a new armored-vehicle plating facility. Hueck Armor could employ 30 or more employees in the first year and as many as 82 people by their third year.
Hueck plans to apply steel and other materials to vehicles owned by the Department of Defense and other federal agencies, adding between 800 and 4,000 pounds of armor to a wide range of vehicles.
Edinburg Manufacturing Plant Planned
EDINBURG, Tex (Edinburg Economic Development Corporation)—Sea Silver USA, which produces Aloe Juice into a food nutritional supplement, will open a manufacturing and warehouse facility in Edinburg. The company, located in California, will open up the plant that is expected to employ 80 people.
The project will assist the firm to increase its production effort and reduce costs associated with transporting their main ingredient, the Aloe plant, from Mexico. The facility should open sometime this summer.
More Flights for San Antonio Airport
SAN ANTONIO, Tex (San Antonio Business Journal)—Mexicana Airlines has added three new nonstop international flights to Guadalajara, Mexico from San Antonio International Airport. The flight departures are scheduled at 12:10 p.m. on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with 9:10 a.m. departures from Guadalajara on the same days.
San Antonio Airport Aviation Director Kevin C. Dolliole says, "We have worked closely with Mexicana over the years and are very excited that they have decided to expand service in the San Antonio market to now include Guadalajara, Mexico." This news comes in the heels of Continental Airlines expanding non-stop service twice daily to its Cleveland hub in May.
Texas Companies Complete Pipeline Agreement
HOUSTON, Tex (Houston Business Journal)—Houston-based Gulf Terra Energy Partners and Valero Energy Corp. of San Antonio have announced a plan to form a 50/50 joint venture in a $458 million Gulf of Mexico oil pipeline. The 390-mile pipeline will have the capacity to deliver up to 500,000 barrels of oil per day from Gulf Oil drilling areas to Port Arthur and Texas City.
When completed, the pipeline will be one of the largest crude oil delivery systems in the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater fields. Completion is scheduled during the third quarter of 2004.
